Beetle

Beetle

Beetles are the largest group of pollinating animals and one of the most ancient. They were abundant during the Mesozoic era (about 200 million years ago) long before flowers populated the planet. As flowers appeared, beetles feasted on the new delicacy, eating both pollen and flora parts, spreading pollen as it dined. Virtually colorblind, beetles relied on their sense of smell for finding their meals.

Beetles are attracted to flowers with plentiful pollen, many flora parts and easy access. Favorite beetle flowers are also bowl-shaped, white to green in color and have a strong, sweet scent.

Today, beetles continue to eat and spread pollen, thus, contributing to the diversity of life.
